Is there a better, more secure way of mounting Giant Loop MotoTrekk Panniers? We encourage riders – especially those riding a lot and putting off-road miles – to try this method of hardware mounting MotoTrekk Panniers to the GL Pannier Mounts. It’s essentially the same as how the Round The World Panniers mount to the Pannier Mounts. This method eliminates wearing webbing when the anchor straps are not fully tensioned and reduces the time required to mount and dismount Panniers. Hardware mounting is by far the most stable and durable option. Our GL Pannier Mounts offer both stability and quick mounting. Here are some photos showing how we prepare the Panniers to be bolted to the Pannier Mounts…
— We removed the “quick-connect” strap and cut off the 2 D-rings and webbing (after we took these photos) so the Pannier Mount plate is more flush to the backing on the Pannier…
— Using the Pannier Mount plate as a template, we marked the locations where there’s plenty of the MotoTrekk Pannier’s stiffener to bolt through with stainless steel hardware (from our Tail Rack — longer bolts than Pannier Mounts hardware): 2 holes at the top on both sides of the latch/lock, 2 holes vertically in middle of plate and 2 holes in the bottom inner slots…
— Using a hot soldering iron, I melted holes large enough to fit the stainless steel bolts…
— Then the MotoTrekk Pannier can be bolted to the GL Pannier Mount, and the anchor hooks can be secured through the slots on the Pannier Mount plate! (NOTE: We also recommend cutting off the two D-rings at the top below the carry handle.)
