Meet Dave Darcy, whom you might know from the Motorcycle Adventure Dirtbike TV (MAD TV) Channel on YouTube.
Dave Darcy is one of Giant Loop’s, longest serving brand Ambassadors. Thirteen years ago the founder of Giant Loop, Harold Cecil Olaf reached out to Dave just before he and riding partner Darren Higginson left for an epic motorcycle adventure on KTM690s from London to Sydney. Harold offered the pair Great Basins and Fandango Tank bags but to his delight he discovered they had already chosen the GL Product.
Dave, a keen videographer, produced a movie length documentary of the trip that was published on YouTube and has attracted over 4.4 million views and has inspired many more riders to Go Light, Go Fast, Go Far!
Since that time Dave has relied on GL products to take him on a wide range of challenging adventures both throughout the world and Australia, including Road of Bones, India, multiple crossings of the Simpson Desert and Tropical North of Australia.
Dave says, “GL gear has never let me down and that’s a big call considering the abuse I give it.”
Dave is currently the shooter producer of YouTube channel Motorcycle Adventure Dirtbike TV with a following of 156,000 subscribers and 40 million views. On that channel Dave documents motorcycle adventures, motorcycle tests, bike builds and occasionally interviews well known riders. He has also extensively filmed extreme adventure rider Chris Birch.
Dave is also the Editor at Large of Australian Adventure Bike Magazine and in that role tests the latest adventure bikes to hit the market. He frequently uses a range of Giant Loop luggage systems on these bikes when he’s testing them. “I’ve found GL products easily fit on all adventure bikes. They are a versatile soft luggage system that works.”
Dave’s pet project for 2023 is the adventure build of a Heritage Edition Husqvarna FE 501 and from those pics he’s pretty excited.
“The Husky comes in at 108 kilograms. The build will be light and as always I will be turning to Giant Loop for my luggage system. Light. Simple. Functional.”
“I can’t wait to take it into the desert.”
“2023 will be a busy year. In addition to the Husky 501 adventure build there are a range of new bikes to test and a possibility we’ll return to India in early October to explore the eastern Himalayas. I’ve got my eye on north western USA and in particular Bend Oregon for a visit, but that’s more likely in 2024.”
