Fitment

The Great Basin Saddlebag is designed to sit on the pillion seat and anchor to the passenger footpeg mounts. It can be positioned differently on every machine and according to each rider’s preference. Each make and model may be slightly different, as will each rider’s stature and preference.

Taller riders may prefer to mount the saddlebag farther back on a tail rack. Others may prefer to move the saddlebag up to provide a backrest while riding on pavement. On some makes and models, mounting the saddlebag partially on the tail rack provides easy access to the under-seat fuel tank.

The Great Basin Saddlebag fits virtually any motorcycle designed to carry a passenger, including:

  • BMW GS models, and more with passenger pegs
  • Ducati Multistrada, Monster, and more
  • KTM Adventure models, 690 (w/passenger pegs), and more with passenger pegs
  • Honda Rally Raid CB500X Adventure, Africa Twin, CRF250L, XR650L (w/passenger pegs), TransAlp, and more with passenger pegs
  • Suzuki V-Strom, DR650, and more with passenger pegs
  • Triumph Tiger, Explorer, and more with passenger pegs
  • Yamaha Super Ténéré, WR250 (w/passenger pegs), and more with passenger pegs
  • Kawasaki KLR 650, Versys, Ninja, and more with passenger pegs
  • And, just about any other bike designed to carry a passenger and with passenger pegs

The Great Basin is Giant Loop’s largest capacity rackless saddlebag that allows one to carry up to 68 liters of gear on virtually any motorcycle where the passenger usually sits. Because of its biomorphic design, the Great Basin Saddlebag emulates the human form by straddling the passenger seat in a vertical position, similar to how a passenger would sit. This positions the weight around the subframe to eliminate stress on the motorcycle.

Three seam-sealed waterproof inner liner dry bags (with air purge valves) keep gear organized on multi-day trips, and dry should any moisture penetrate the outer shell. Upon arriving at your destination, the dry bags can be removed and taken to your campsite or hotel room, leaving the saddlebag attached to the motorcycle. And with Giant Loop’s adventure proof packing system, you can expand your carrying capacity by adding a Fandango Tank Bag™, double-ended Tillamook Dry Bag™, or two Possibles Pouches™.

The Great Basin fits virtually any sport, sport-touring, scrambler, standard, naked, adventure touring, or dual-sport motorcycle with a passenger seat and passenger footpegs. No side luggage racks or saddlebag stays are required. Anchors directly to the passenger footpegs. Solid anchor points can be added to the motorcycle’s tail section by installing a Footmans Loop Anchor Kit. Every Great Basin Saddlebag includes a Hot Springs Heat Shield™ Kit to help prevent the saddlebag or side panels from making contact with exhaust components. A pair of stainless-steel Giant Loop Mounts can also be added to help keep anchor straps away from hot exhaust.

No matter what setup you choose, the Great Basin Saddlebag is designed to allow you to go light, go fast, and go far by carrying your gear where the passenger usually sits on the motorcycle. When not in use, simply unstrap and remove the saddlebag to return your bike to its stock setup.

After purchasing a couple different pannier racks for my Ducati Scrambler Icon, and both times being very disappointed in fit and compatibility, I am happy to say that I discovered Giant Loop while looking for other luggage solutions. My new GL Great Basin Saddlebag fits beautifully, is very secure, and I know that I’ll be enjoying many miles with this rock solid setup. My advice, skip the rest, and buy a quality setup from Giant Loop.

I got into adventure riding about 2 years ago and have been really taking my time to see what company offered the PERFECT solution for off road riding. I do a lot of technical and challenging rides on my 2018 Africa Twin. I had tried “another” company and ended up breaking both products I’d purchased literally after the first ride they went on. Now heading out on the WABDR this coming June (2021) I knew I needed to find the right gear that can handle the wet winters of the PNW, as well as the scorching summers on the Eastern side of Washington state. Enter the Great Basin! I’m a very technical minded person and have found something I don’t like with all the other major ADV brands out there. There’s not one thing I would change about my Great Basin bag. It’s made of bomber materials, superbly crafted in the United States and is great looking to boot. I am truly proud to have this gear attached to my bike, and it gets a lot of questions and thumbs up from other riders and cagers as well. Needless to say, my whole bike is kitted out in GL products. Customer for life here.

The people at Giant Loop have made the best product on the market in my opinion. The motto of Go Light, Go Fast, Go Far, is really appropriate. I ride an Africa Twin, which is far from a light ADV bike, but i use it on single track trails regularly. Keeping weight down is obviously paramount, but also having something that will take the abuse of repeated drops, and pushing through trees. The mounting is perfect, it stays in place even on rutted out 40+mph rides, and the integration of other products was extremely well thought out. You folks truly have a customer for life. My riding partners are a bit envious to say the least, as they spent considerably more, for a heavier product, that was made in other places than the good ol US of A. I hope to make a trip to Bend for some riding and a visit sometime this year. Thank you for making the best gear on the planet!

The CONCEPT, design and execution is brilliant. The horseshoe shape distributes the load so it’s not ripping itself apart.

So far I own Great Basin, MoJavi, Klamath, GL tail rack, BuckinRoll, 12 pronghorns, first aid possible, and two zigzags. Striving for strategic & substantial success; I splurged for symmetrical, synergistic, and sumptuously svelte storage solutions. I have a Honda crf250L rally and all of this gear fits & works perfectly. I use the Mojave for daytrippin’, & the Great Basin for longer excursions. I watched most of the Giant Loop vids on YouTube so I knew how to install everything when it arrived. Gravy! I got my moneys worth and more. Excellent quality. Fast shipping. Great value. Thanks Giant Loop for making my life easier!

So I’ve had this thing for a little while and it’s been great. Hauls anything you need it to and survives basically any off-road dump or scrape you can imagine. Secures to the bike (KLR650) wonderfully without being a massive pain to remove if I need to get under the seat. But today I got in an accident on the road that led to my bike skidding about 15 feet across the asphalt. Crash bars protected the bike great, riding gear protected me, and somehow – despite skidding on rough pavement – the Great Basin has nothing but some light scratching and what looks like some melted vinyl from friction heat. I don’t think you’d even notice the damage if I didn’t point it out to you. Also had a Possibles Pouch mounted to it with my tools in it, and that was almost entirely unscathed as well. I own quite a few GL things already but the build quality on the Great Basin has earned GL a customer for life.

I’m riding a ‘19 Indian FTR 1200 S with the passenger grab handles, and this bag mounts up almost perfectly. Ton of adjustment straps, can hold more gear, clothing, and equipment than I’m going to need for most rides, but for those long ones… it’s perfect. This is a well thought out and exceptionally well made bag. Easy to mount and easy to remove when done for the day. I’ve three cross country trips planned this year, and this bag will be on all of them, I couldn’t be happier with it.

Just did my first trip with the Great Basin and can definitely recommend. I love the versatility of it because I’ve got a couple of bikes and plan to own other bikes in the future. Although I did buy it primarily for my BMW G310 GS. The Baby GS is a funny, little bike–after some upgrades, it’s been a great travel companion, but is really difficult to find good luggage solutions for. For such a little bike, it’s exceptionally wide in the rear end with it’s big, OEM grab rails/luggage rack. And I’m currently running the Rally Raid side racks, which add further to the width. The Great Basin still fits just fine–although will probably fit even better when I remove those racks. It takes some smarts and patience to get it mounted perfectly the first time, but once you figure it out, it’s easy enough to get on and off quickly after that. It’s bomber and rock solid. My first trip was about 600 miles of mixed surface and some freeway speeds. Held up just fine and stayed entirely in place.

After having been riding and guiding on BMW and KTM adventure bikes for the past twelve years I can share that ‘soft’ luggage is the only ‘safe’ way to ride off-road and that there is not a piece of soft luggage as narrow, hugs the bike as well and is as durable as the ‘Made In America’ Giant Loop horseshoe-design models.

I have had 2 sets of these bags, the very first model and the one that came out right after. This is really the only bag for riding a thumper. My friends and I have done several multiday rides using the Coyote and Great Basin bags down in Baja, Death Valley, Utah, Az, Nv.. 10 years of use and many miles on these. As others have said the bags once mounted right never move or shift their load. They stay out of the way and its easy to access the bag and pull out a wind breaker or snack….

  11. Lilianne Dobert

Bought the Great Basin Saddle bags for a Royal Enfield for my trip to Chile and Argentina. It fit perfectly on the bike. The bags had plenty of room to carry my gear. The girls were in awe as to how easy it was to remove and carry my belongings in and out of the places we stayed during the night. With one trip to or from the room, the bag was easy to carry and secure on the bike. Never did the bag become loose from the bike while riding harsh roads in the Patagonia area. This bag went through all types of weather keeping my gear dry. In addition, this bag was easy to pack in the suitcase taking minimal room and minimal weight. It was the best equipment I have purchased for my international riding trips. The bag received so many compliments from riders and border patrol.
